When a tenant reports that they are moving out, it’s a good idea to update Proper as soon as possible. This way, you can ensure that the tenant is not overcharged for rent, and you can have Proper automatically handle the prepaid rent.
Set the End Date
1. Go to the lease and find Beginning & Ending in the side menu
2. Set the end date and select the date until which the tenant is liable.
3. After you have set a date, you will see the bills for the last period appear. If the lease ends in the middle of a month, Proper will automatically calculate the portion of the rent that needs to be paid. You can always override these amounts.
4. If the tenant has paid prepaid rent, you can choose whether this should be used in the last period and if it should cover anything other than rent.
5. Click Save
When you have set an end date, Proper will automatically stop all future bills. You can still create one-time bill items and send them to the tenant, even after the lease has ended.
You can always update or remove the end date again. All recurring bill items will then continue, but you will need to add the one-time bill items again.
